The Human Continuum

Seven million years of struggle, discovery, love, and survival — told not as a list of dates, but as a living, breathing journey you can feel the scale of.

History the way it feels

Most timelines are lists. Dates stacked on dates, stripped of the awe they deserve. The Human Continuum was built on a different idea — that history is not a sequence of facts to memorize, but a vast, humbling landscape to explore. That the distance between the first stone tool and the first moon landing is something you should be able to see and feel, not just read.

This is an immersive, interactive timeline of all of pre-human and human history — from our earliest hominid ancestors walking the savannas of Africa seven million years ago, to the world as it exists today. Every event, every era, every leap forward and step back is here, placed in its true proportion against the full sweep of time.

"Zoom out far enough and you see the whole story at once. Zoom in and you find yourself standing beside it."

The result is something that feels less like a textbook and more like looking at the universe from the outside — vast, ancient, and extraordinary. And right at the very end of that seven-million-year thread, there you are.

Built for everyone

The Human Continuum was created without a specific audience in mind — because human history belongs to everyone. It is for the student discovering the ancient world for the first time. For the teacher looking for a way to make the past feel alive in a classroom. For the curious mind on a Tuesday afternoon who wonders how far we have truly come. For anyone who has ever looked up at the night sky and felt the strange, beautiful weight of being here.

There are no paywalls. No accounts required. No prerequisites. Just time — all of it — laid out before you to explore at whatever pace feels right.

A timeline that grows

History is not finished. And neither is this timeline.

The Human Continuum is designed as a collaborative project — a living record that grows through the contributions of people all over the world. Every culture has its own pivotal moments. Every region has its own turning points. Every community has events that shaped who they are and where they come from. Those stories deserve a place here too.

The long-term vision is simple and ambitious at once: to become the most complete, most accessible, most beautifully presented interactive history of humanity ever assembled — built not by one person, but by all of us together. A learning tool for students, a reference for educators, and a reminder for everyone of just how remarkable the human story truly is.

"We are the first species in the history of life on Earth capable of understanding our own origins. That is not a small thing."

Every event submitted, every story added, every correction made brings that vision one step closer. The timeline you see today is only the beginning.
